I really like the smooth, sleek surface.

I find the aztecing on more recent ship designs (like on ST-TNG) were so overdone, that the ship surfaces looked cluttered and, well, kind of sloppy.

They remind me of the old 19th century ironclads, which had all their plate lines visible, and every bolt and screw could be seen on the surface. They were nothing like the smooth, sleek likes of modern ships.

In Star Trek, the series started with ships with smooth, sleek lines in the 60's, and de-volved into ship designs where every plate can be seen.

What can I say? I guess the 24th century engineers just don't have the old fashioned pride they way the did back in the 23rd century.
