This is one of my favorite episodes! I have done similar storylines from the Doomsday Machine when I used to run the FASA Star Trek games. We even did one that was based off of a Next Generation book where you get the idea that it was the Borg who the Doomsday Machine was built to fight.
"THERE... ARE... FOUR... LIGHTS!!!" *shakes arm out of Cardassisn guard's and walks out of room with chin held high and a splitting headache* That scene gave me goose bumps. For the record there actually were five lights.
Oh, man, this looks excellent. "The Doomsday Machine" is easily one of my favoriteepisodes of the original series., if not my top favorite outright. William Windom's performance as the grief-stricken Commodore Decker was absolutely wonderful.
This picture, though? It's perfect. It sums up all the devastation that the the planet killer caused as well as the obvious threat it posed when you see one of Enterprise's sister ships left dead in space, battered and nearly broken. Even all the signs of cutting on the rocks are perfect for the episode. This is so faithful and still so fresh a look at that scene.
Yeah, seeing a Connie being destroyed so easily broke the invurnability of the Enterprise herself. I think The Doomsday Machine made people actually realize that there are things out there far more powerful and lethal than a starship...
