It's the "Phase II" Enterprise. Back before they made TMP, they wanted to do a new series, featuring an upgraded Enterprise. Not a total refit, but clearly new technology. So, they dusted off some old concepts, added some others, and this design was born. They built a half-finished filming miniature. Later, the idea was scrapped as a more detailed design was needed for TMP, so they took the concept a degree further and designed the Enterprise Refit.
No. Matt Jeffries designed the original 1701 in two versions: one with round nacelles, one with angular ones. Roddenberry chose the round ones. They used the old concept when they designed the Refit Enterprise.
I've just watched a short clip on the New Voyages/Phase II website, showing the newer nacelles being installed, and this image captures them perfectly. You should seriously consider collaborating with them Dave, because your CGI/3D images of the Enterprise would look amazing in their episodes
Oooh, I know that clip (and the new Kirk is superb), but the models and the animation work is none other than Tobias Richter. The Tobias Richter whose Ent-D is used for TNG-Remastered. I'm a few leagues less
They should not have let kirk have it back in the tmp or in the twok or sfs then he would not have destroyed it But on the plus side we got the enterprise a and very funny movie tff were scotty does his mirical worker bit and puts the 1701 a back together after kirks trial run at the end of tvh but this ship looks like a much better look for the 1701 refit and the enterprise a would have been a lot cooler then
"Sir they've updated the Enterprise!" "Have they given it back to Kirk?" "I don't know sir" "Find out so I know how much paint to order for the next year, and add lots of aspirin to the list, if you please....."
Looks awesome man as always. I've really been loving your Alternative Universe where the Enterprise D wasn't destroyed and continued to serve in TNG movies. I love the Sovereign Class, but nothing beats the Galaxy, i can't believe they didn't think it was a good ship for the big screen. Anyway, is there any chance you keep going with those images? Seeing NCC-1701-D fight in the battle of 001 or against the Scimitar or leading the charge in the Dominion War would be incredible.
