The merchant prince, redux by thefirstfleet The merchant prince, redux by thefirstfleet
The transporter lit up with a flurry of charged mulecules, whining in protest as the old circuits raced against some of the fundamental principles of physics. It took almost a minute for the three forms to materialize, and was it a sight to behold. Three Orions, one male and two females.
The Orion man wore a flamboyant set of clothes that reminded Metlesits of a mixture between a king and a pimp. Lots of loose fabric, fur and silk, with no two pieces matching in color. The man had dark, shrewed eyes and a thin, long goatee which he twirled between his rather stubby fingers.
His two companions were the all-too-stereotypical Orion "animal women", as spacers used to call them. Tall, slender and beautiful, scantily clad and looking dangerously irresistable. And each were drawing a particle pistol with a theatrical, elegant motion.
The two Palo Alto security guards draw their hand lasers, to which the Orion man let out a booming, overdone laugh.
- My friends, my friends, there is no need for that! - he said. Metlesits could sense that his accent was fake, part of his antics.
- Tell your girlfriends to put down their guns, and we'll do so too. - Nussbaum said, he himself grabbing hor his laser.
- Oh, they aren't my girlfriends. - the Orion chuckled - Then again, I can see that I'm in no immediate danger. Lela, my dear and... what's your name again...?
- Alixia - one of the girls said in a purring voice.
- Alixia, of course. My dears, please put away your weapons. These Starfleet gentlemen are our friends, after all.
- We're not Starfleet - Metlesits said - This is an Earth vessel. UEFF.
- Oh, Terra's little private fleet! Charming! It's so nice to meet one of you. Starfleet people are so... what's the word for that... dull.
Metlesits looked at Nussbaum and the two shared a grin. They knew well they couldn't trust the Orion, but for now, they've found a common ground.
- I'm Captain Lieutenant David Metlesits, the skipper of this ship. - Metlesits said, his hand reaching out. The Orion shook it.
- Allow me to introduce myself - he said, bowing and gesturing theatrically - My name is Elik, merchant prince of the Third Circle and humble servant of the House of Deep Knowledge. I've been searching for Terrans for months now, and the light of my lucky stars has finally shone upon me.

And thus begins the frienmity (yupp, that's a word) between a young, inexperienced David Metlesits and the notorious merchant prince Elik. They will often fight and then join forces again during David's command of the Palo Alto, in the search of an old Human space artifact that could be invaluable for the right people.

Also, introducing my new Otion ship, a much better than my previous one:

Neat ship. I'm guessing that the things on the back of the ship spin like propellers?

My only nitpick on that has more to do with the Remastering:
The ship in Journey to Babel was built to be unidentifiable.
If the Orions have a distinctive design for their ships, with rotating rings,
it's distinctiveness would have given their mission away.

But, that's more of a bone to pick with the Remastering crew, than your work.
Frankly, it's not the only bone I had to pick with their work.

Excellent story!

I like the Elik's antics, (King and a Pimp, had me laughing!! :D) and I am glad the men did not become 'horny' and were professional, considering what they were seeing!

The best bit is the Orion ship! It sticks to the design featured in "Journey to Babel", but the tiny impulse engines make this a treat!!!

Superb work :D

Fascinating.

Kinda looks like I would imagine very early Vulcan spaceships...
