USS Enterprise NCC-1701 (refit): (to herself) "Goodbye, Jim. Get Spock home for me! ... Sorry I wasn't able to make the rest of the trip with you. I'll take it from here with these Klingon b*st*rds..."

Actually, something like this happens in my Polarisverse. Ships do have souls and some choose to talk to their Captains. Tough luck, this usually means both the ship and the Captain is doomed.

The Enterprise was always NCC-1701 to me, I never was fond of A-E. To me it felt like they were pretenders to the throne, the JJ Prise, is an alternate but it's the Enterprise all the same .

This is probably the saddest thing that ever and will ever have occurred in all Star Trek movies and series....

kirk was my favorite captain having to make hard calls unlike the TNG  push a button and fix a problem . I'm not a star trek pro but what i pieced together was not the original enterprise  classed as a heavy cruiser "

some of my favorite quotes from:TNG

Q: You judge yourselves against the pitiful adversaries you've encountered so far - the Romulans, the Klingons. They're nothing compared to what's waiting. Picard - you are about to move into areas of the galaxy containing wonders more incredible than you can possibly imagine - and terrors to freeze your soul.

Capt. Picard: I understand what you've done here, Q. But I think the lesson could have been learned without the loss of 18 members of my crew.
Q: If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

"Everything you've learned at the Academy was to prepare you for shipboard life. How to handle the instruments, how to work with dozens of different races, what to do when meeting new ones. But nothing can teach you about that's out there. Out there are things that are far more terrible than what the human mind could understand, and far more beautiful than it could comprehend. You make a single wrong move, you get your friends killed, your Captain killed, your ship killed. But don't worry. You'll get the hang of it. In time..."

(Line Admiral David Metlesits, United Earth First Fleet, to his daughter, Chief Petty Officer Suliko Metlesits, Starfleet)

When Kirk killed his "wife"... that was one quiet movie theatre back in '84.  Great depiction

But it seved as the best example of the comraderie/brotherhood between Kirk and Spock. Kirk sacrified everything to save his friend!

no, ive seen all the movies, not read the books...but that part was the saddest from what I grew up watching, bc it kinda comes full cirlcle again, but in opposite character roles. I knew kick was going to live with Kahns blood..but that scene was just a glimps from two altered universes! wished spock would say the same line he did in ST2:Wrath of Kahn

This ship death I don't have much of a problem with, compared to the cheapness of killing off the 'D'. This was done with honor and she took about the entire crew of Kruge's ship with her. Had there been similar circumstances surrounding killing off the 'D', like the crazed Soran having a bunch of followers that had tried to take over the ship and Picard choosing to maroon them in the stardrive section and blowing it and then trying to use the landing of saucer section to literally run Soran down and grind him to scraps between the bottom of the saucer and the ground, I would have took the 'D's death A LOT better.

Brannon and Braga hated the D and wanted to get rid of it. Idiots...

Big E-D never died in my head canon, but because of shitheads like Berman and Braga, it's not easy to get over. In fact, just out of spite, I should use their names, and have a villain that is based on them for the planned David Koresh character (Berga Braman), and have that said fiend ground into dust by E-D. How's that for a great sacrifice?

And in my universe, there was no NX-01.

OK... they may not think much of the atmosphere.... but it sure looks impressive from the outside! Love that flaming erosion on the front of the primary. A VERY masterful work!

One of the saddest and most kick arse moments in the movie. Sad because he blew the ship up and kick arse because Kirk, as Kirk always manages to do, evens the odds in his favour.
Beautifully done, you have captured it perfectly!
