Shots fired

Description

The attack comes out of nowhere. It hits Polaris like a thunderclap. All screens flicker on the bridge and I hear Clay cuss. The fact is, he had no chance to prepare. This thing that is now attacking us is fast, like a predator. Not like the Romulans back during the war. Not cold, calculated strategy. Whoever these are, they just pounce upon us.
"Damage report", I cry but turn immediately to the helm station, "Katya, full evasive!"
Polaris turns, I hear the faint hum of the polarization generators coming online. The ship feels sluggish.
"Hull breach on C", Clay shouts over the klaxons now blaring all over the ship, "We're ventin' atmo."
I realize that the leaking atmosphere counteracts the thrusters. We can't go on full evasive like this. How big a hole did they punch on us?
My fist slams hard on the intercom and I yell "Hyoni, seal off the breach! NOW!"
A single response light flickers as response. Hyoni's on it, she has no time chatting with me. The ship shakes as another projectile strikes us.
"Linus, another one of these and we're done for!", Clay cries out.
"Phase cannons, full spread", I order. I know it probably has no use. On the viewscreen, the enemy ship turns toward us again. It's a rounded, yet blocky shape, two pod-like engines and a conning tower. I haven't seen anything like it. I know they could finish us any second now.
"They're targeting our Warp core!", Clay howls. I see Katya desperately tring to make
Polaris turn, to get us out of harm's way. A futile effort, but she does her best. Brave, stubborn girl.
Suddenly, a deep silence falls as I see the enemy ship's main cannon power down. Those bastards are toying with us.
"Cap... captain... There's a message coming in". Call says, her voice shaking.
"On screen", I say without turning to her.
The image that appears on the viewscreen is scary in a comical sense of way. A bulky, muscular, furry body, a feline head with bat-like ears. Barrel-chested and almost looking like a fat, old bear. The creature gives a growling, hissing sound, which our universal translator decodes with a few seconds of lag.
"Make it fun, prey!"
"Excuse me?", is all I can say. I'm surprised, my mind is abuzz with so many questions, but also filled with terror. The creature grins, showing a muzzleful of sharp fangs.
"Fight back, at least a bit", it says, almost like in a purring voice, "I like when the prey struggles before it falls"
"I am Linus Randolph of the United Earth starship
Polaris", I say, mustering all my courage, "Why have you attacked us? We weren't provoking you."
"You speak too much", the bear-cat says. It stands up, shaking his mane, "We don't like boring prey. We, the Kzinti".
My blood chills at his words. So all those legends were true. We have gone too far, too deep into the unknown and have awoken something that should have been left undisturbed.

We need some kind of defense that will make the Kzinti don't attack. And if they do attack then we need to find an upgrade that will make it so that their "prey" will so became their "hunters"!
