At first I imagined that that was the Enterprise in that shot, but then I remembered that the Enterprise-D had been destroyed by then. I love the Enterprise-E but it's still sad.

I prefer the 1701-D to the E myself.

Ah the Ambassador. The unsung hero of Trek. I'm sure if Starfleet used more Ambassadors instead of so many Mirandas and Excelsiors the war might have gone a little better for them. Then again... the Dominion did clean up a lot of the ancient old Mirandas and Excelsiors.

I think it was easier for them to build two Excelsiors and three Mirandas than one Ambassador. From the Ambassador onward, ships became huge. Just imagine the Galaxy and Sovereign classes! They're beasts! Building the smaller, long-running lines of the older classes is better and more economical for everyday tasks.

I suppose, but if they'd still build Mirandas and Excelsiors... why use old parts? :P I'd at least give all of them phaser arrays instead of those outdated cannons. But you're right about the construction time vs ship size thing. I expected a lot more Defiants too though.

Maybe structural incompatibility or the Warp cores could not handle the output of the newer weapons.

Really dig your stuff. Cool scene above. Gotta ask; any reason I see no Enterprise E stuff in your gallery (that I've come across). I always wondered why you don't even see a Sovereign Class ship at the end of DS9...

Ahh, love this shot, and who cares what others say about the Enterprise-D not really being there. I love your alternate idea of how Generations went and so the Enterprise-D was able to go on and earn some serious stripes kicking Cardassian and Dominion arse in the Dominion War and Picard showing that diplomats can don the brass knuckles when the enemy's not interested in reasoning.

only 2 little details: the good old Enterprise D was already destroyed at that time and the Excelsior was decommissioned at that time.

And the Excelsior... DS9 fleet shots were full with them...
