Payback time by thefirstfleet Payback time by thefirstfleet
After the Battle of the Bassen Rift, the Enterprise was heavily modified to meet the specifications of Starfleet's next generation warship. The fact that the Federation's flagship was now an armed-to-the-boots dreadnought signalled the onset of a new era for the Federation. After the Klingons, the Romulans, the Cardassians, the Dominion and finally the Borg, Starfleet drew a line they've sworn they won't allow anyone to cross anymore.
Meanwhile, at Narendra III, Captain Jean-Luc Picard struggles with his gut emotions not to feel joy as he orders his tactical officer to fire the Mark XX Fixed-Arc Phaser Spinal Lance. Against the most dreadful starship, and here, at this historical place, the good Captain makes a small nod to himself, thinking some old and some not so old wrongs are now finally corrected...

sad part is that is how it would have went down. that gun is just own sauce. in star trek online they had to make it to where you have to be stationary to fire it as to not make it too over powerd. the galaxy refit is just own sauce. love this picture.

Another fantastic job! The first time I saw "All Good Things..." my jaw dropped when the Enterprise's phasers punched through those Klingon ships.

I can imagine that :D

TNG lacked the punch all other series had. All other ships, especially the Defiant, were shown to have massive firepower. Only the Enterprise-D looked a bit more tame. I know that TNG was based on peaceful diplomacy, but still...

Me neither. The Sovereign itself was over the top.

I imagine it already being a dreadnaught itself, considering its a patrol ship.

The Dreadnought is much stronger than the Sovereign class. Not so fast and manouverable, but has a much larger firepower.

Psh, so you have a big gun that "Might" break through a ships shields (It's never broken through mine).  I have a weapon that can kill an entire planet with just a teaspoon of it's ammo...

I kill things to death with that ship. With science!

Imagine if they did this to the Sovereign class... with the new Warp Core designs that were inspired by the Defiant project... a quartet of Warp Nacelles powered by dual Type 11 Warp Cores... but you would have to put a pair of these to either side of the Quantum Torpedo Turret... good grief that'd look incredibly badass :D

I'd say go with all of them, but put the pairs of nacelles on the ship so they extend straight out to the side, Voyager-style.  The usual x-shape doesn't really look all that good.

Really? Eh, to each his own I guess. I like how sleek it is... don't get me wrong, the Ent-D was iconic... but it looked like an explorer. A scientific, diplomatic, and general all-around all-purpose ship, designed to be a jack of all trades.

To me, the Sovereign class just screams "I'ma kill you" when it hauls ass into battle :)

The Sovereign deviated too much from the original designs. If it had a neck, than maybe...

E-E was designed to fight the Borg--specifically. It also was large enough to meet the demands of long range explorability. The sleekness in design and configuration was the Federation's solution to the problem of warp 5+ damaging subspace. The new design allowed for a better configuration of the starship's warp field and nullified the speed limit. Now, she's the fastest ship in the fleet :D

Despite this, the TWOK 1701 is my all time favorite ship.

Ah, I see where you're coming from... yeah, compared to the TOS designs especially, it was drastically different. I'm guessing you probably aren't a fan of the Sabre, Norway, Steamrunner, Akira, or Prometheus designs?

Sabre? No, too clunky.
Norvay: Massive fan, even built the model myself. Why? It's called USS Budapest in the movie!!! :D
Steamrunner? Now which one was that?
Akira? A bit off-scale, the saucer is a bit small for the overall bulk for my taste, but a good design nevertheless.
Prometheus? Looks too much like a Star Wars ship.
The only modern designs I accept are the Defiant and the Voyager. Why? Because the Defiant is a never-before-attempted prototype for a mini-dreadnought and the Voyager is modelled around experimental Warp fields, the "green Warp drive" concept with the folding nacelles.

Hm... the Steamrunner is this one:
en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Steam…
First very odd design, almost reminds me of a Defiant-Project style, but not quite. Supposedly, depending on what sources you believe, the front where the Saucer is cut out is a port for Artillery Photon Torpedoes (think the Tri-Cobolts on crack) making this a sort of long-range torpedo ship. Then again, the same can be said for the Akira, what with the half dozen or so front-facing torpedo tubes in the roll bar.

The Prometheus I liked because of the multi-vector design... that and the episode it premiered in was just hilarious (Computer: Specify attack pattern. EMH: Attack pattern... Alpha? Computer: Specify target. EMH: ROMULANS!!!! XD)

I rather like the Sabre... it makes sense to me as a short range escort or combat frigate.

Norway - Yup yup!

Voyager - I don't mind the Voyager design at all... but I think they played up the capabilities of the ship far too much in the series. I dunno... other than that, love it!

The Defiant I really, really like... a ship with so much raw power that, on test trials, it almost shook itself apart, bwahah!

What do you think of the designs for the Luna (USS Titan) class or the Excelsior-II (Lakota) Class?

BTW - techspecs.acalltoduty.com/fede…
That is one of my favorite pages - they try to provide detailed specs on the ships taken from on-screen evidence, scripts, interviews, and other sources and try to reconcile them all together. It isn't 100% cannon sadly, since Paramount won't cannonize anything beyond the series and movies, but I find the explanations to be exceptional!
