Just an everyday desert by thefirstfleet Just an everyday desert by thefirstfleet
Because a shuttlecraft is so much more fun than the transporter...

Presenting my TMP-era Galileo model. I tried to be as much accurate with her as possible, given that I had great source material. She will be included in my next model release spree (I just need to sort all of them out, oh my...).

One wonders if you have real ships on your backyard and these are actually photos, not 3D renderings! ;)

I knew it! You are a Starfleet Officer who has travelled back in time! What is your rank, by the way?

Very nice work , it bit too crisp for my taste though ,maybe a little motion blur or some heat waves , or bit shinier materials . I I what you would say , motion blur well it is a really high shutter speed , heat waves ...shuttle does handle energy just fine ,shinier materials ,this is space composite deal :)

The funny thing is, if I make it blurred, others will criticize me for it :D

So nice :D I like the shape of these shuttles the most, I had a 1701-A model and it broke and all I kept of it was the shuttle :)

What happened to the 1701-A?

You're Welcome

Her nacelles were not anchored well and one day as sometimes happens she fell off her shelf and just completely crumbled, luckily I was able to get another one and this time I made sure her nacelles were well supported. So now I have one fairly good 1701-A and two shuttles :D

I've really only been to one, the Nevada desert. Well, technically the entire state of Nevada IS a desert lol. Hot as hell out there, dry too. Fortunately whenever I'm there it's because my family and I are driving through it, not staying in it.

That was always a thing that bugged me. In theory, if you can teleport mass directly into and from your ship, why accelerate a whole lot of mass to get a even more mass back?
I mean, in that time, shuttles are practically just a failsafe or additional long range transport ship. Why create a teleporter if you can't even use it on most conditions? (Like, duh, because celbonite and class Y planet, adding extra tension to the show).

It just bugs me, anyway.

Time for the joke... uh ....

Dat ass? no, wait ...

DAT AFT, eh? :D

Well, the transporter has limitations, the shuttle has limitations, but the two put together ensure that the crew can go planetside.

Is your teleporter going to work while your ship is blowing up?
The basic theory behind a teleporter is to excite the electrons of the mass to be transported until its molecules / compounds literally fall apart. The receiving teleporter is supposed to then re-assemble the mass into its original form. There is no mass gained in this process, it just breaks down the mass into a more energetic form.

Applying more energy would only cause damage. Electrons would break away from their respective atoms, you might lose a few neutrons and end up with something highly radioactive, etc.

That's the basic premise of it anyway...

I think you misunderstood me. I was talking about beamer (direct teleportation of mass) versus shuttle transport (accelerating mass to carry even more mass). I am not really interested in HOW that teleporter works because it NEVER will (cause there is no thing such as a Hiedenberg-compensator), but rather into why the stupid authors thought that disabling the cool technology they have would add to the tension.

Considering the number of shuttle crashes throughout Trek, it makes the transporter look almost a sane way to travel by comparison :P
